Is rising damp real?
Genuine rising damp exists but is over-diagnosed. Most "damp" in Lincoln terraces turns out to be condensation, leaking gutters, a bridged DPC by raised ground level, or pointing failure. I diagnose properly before recommending a fix.
What is wrong with cement on a Victorian wall?
Cement is harder than soft Victorian brick. Moisture moves through the brick instead of the joint and the brick face spalls. Lime mortar flexes and breathes, which is what these walls need.
Can you work on listed properties?
I have done. Listed work needs proper consents and a careful approach. Talk to me early so we can build the right consultations into the programme.
Do you remove original features?
Almost never. If a cornice or fireplace surround is salvageable, we save it. If a feature has been hacked about by previous owners, I will tell you straight what your options are.
